Police on Saturday arrested two youths from the district town for allegedly spreading rumour over coronavirus infection  on social media.

The arrestees were identified as Nur Alam, 27, son of Abu Taleb and Mahfuz, 27, son of Mahbub Alam of the town.

Tanvirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Mahfuz updated his Facebook status at noon, claiming that Thakurgaon has confirmed three coronavirus cases. Within a few moments, Nur Alam shared the post.

“We arrested them from Goalpara and Haipara of the town in the afternoon,” he said, adding that they were accused under the Digital Security Act.
