Man who came in contact with corona patient dies in Khulna

A man, who had come in contact with a confirmed coronavirus patient, died in Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) on Thursday while receiving treatment in the hospital’s surgery ward.

The deceased was identified as Mostahidur Rahman, 45, a resident of Khulna’s Helatola area.

A medical team from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) went Khulna to collect samples from the deceased’s body.

“The medical team will examine whether the deceased was a coronavirus patient. Mostahidur’s body will be kept in the morgue of KMCH until we receive the examination results. And as per the report, we will take further actions,” said Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed.

KMCH Director Dr ATM Monjur Morshed said, “Mostahidur took admission in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in the capital for his thyroid surgery. One of the coronavirus patients, who died later, was also receiving treatment at the ICU unit of the hospital.”

Later the authorities of the hospital released all of their patients and advised them to go into self-quarantine but Mostahidur went to KMCH on Wednesday night and got admitted without disclosing anything in this connection, the KMCH director stated.

On Thursday morning, Mostahidur said he was experiencing breathing problems and that is when the hospital authority learned everything, he added.

Mostahidur was promptly moved to an empty ward, where he died at around 1:30 pm.

Everyone who was involved in treating Mostahidur, including two doctors and 10 nurses, are now in quarantine in separate rooms of the hospital dormitory, Dr Morshed said.
