Family of photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol has filed a general dairy (GD) with Chawkbazar Model Police Station mentioning that he has gone missing since March 10 after a lawmaker from ruling Awami League filed a case against him and 31 other persons under Digital Security Act 2018.
“Julia Ferdousi, wife of the photojournalist, filed the GD with the police station on Wednesday afternoon. Law enforcers are looking into the matter,” said officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Model Police Statio Maudud Hawlader on Thursday morning.
Missing journalist’s son Manoram Palak alleged that they have been failing to establish any type of contact with Kajol for two day after he left their home in the capital’s Bakshibazar area on Tuesday night.
Kajol, currently editor of fortnightly magazine Pokkhokal, worked as a photojournalist in various national dailies, including the Daily Samakal and Bangla business daily Bonikbarta.
Earlier on Monday night, Awami League lawmaker Magura-1 constituency Saifuzzaman Shekhar filed a case against Daily Manabzamin chief editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, journalist Al-Amin and 30 others under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for allegedly publishing fabricated news and circulating it on social media.
The case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station over publishing a report on the arrest of expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia. Thirty Facebook users, including missing journalist Kajol, have been made accused in the case.
Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed the case as his name was mentioned in the report, which allegedly claimed that he had involvement with the illegal activities of Papia.
