A massive fire broke out at a slum in Rupnagar area of Mirpur in the capital on Wednesday morning.

Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Russel Shikdar said, the fire originated at a shanty of Rupnagar slum at around 9:45am and it engulfed adjoining areas.

On information, 25 firefighting units rushed to the spot and were trying to douse the blaze, he said.

The authorities could not immediately determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

It comes after two separate fires gutted the Chalantika slum in the space of five months between August last year and January this year.
