Retail customers have to spend more on electricity from the next month as the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has raised the prices by Tk 0.36 or 5.3 percent to Tk 7.13 per unit.
At the same time, the power tariff has been raised by 8.4 percent at wholesale levels.The decision came at a public hearing, arranged by the BERC at its headquarters in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area on Thursday afternoon.
BERC Chairman Md Abdul Jalil, in the hearing, said that the new tariff will come into effect from March 1.
He said, “The retail power tariff has been increased from Tk 6.77 to Tk 7.13 per kilowatt-hour unit while Tk 4.77 to Tk 5.17 at wholesale level.”
