ITEC course on electronic and digital media management begins

Course on electronic and digital media management for young journalists of Bangladesh has begun in Kolkata on Monday.

Ministry of External Affairs of India organised the course under ITEC flagship programme to increase skills of international professionals. High Commission of India in Dhaka facilitated the programme.

A total of 16 journalists from different newspapers, news agencies and televisions are taking part in the scholarship programme at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in the capital of West Bengal state.

Besides, there was another course on current affairs news in the same venue in progress where 14 professionals from different countries participated.

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) is a bilateral assistance programme run by the government of India.

SRFTI Electronic and Digital Media Dean Prof Abhijit Dasgupta was the chief guest while faculties Debasish Ghoshal and Somdev Chatterjee and Ashim Paul were present on the inaugural session.

Course coordinator Prof Sudipta Bhaumik welcomed all to the programme and details the curriculum.

Chief Guest Prof Abhijit Dasgupta said the world has turned into a global village in touch of information and communication technologies.

"It's time to share knowledge among others and enrich learning. In this digital age, the dimensions of news and film industries have rapidly been changed through emerging innovations like artificial intelligence and big data. To face of the future challenges, media professionals have to go through new trends," he said.

Prof Abhijit also appreciated the role of Bangladeshi media for maintaining standards in journalism.

Prof Sudipta Bhaumik said the ITEC programme helps participants to learn content plan and management through research-based execution to make the media profitable in digital and traditional platforms.

Bangladeshi participants in the scholarship programme are: Kazi Sajidul Haque, Jasmin Ara Moli, Jannatul Islam Rahad, Salauddin Ahmed Reza, Naznin Akter Munni, Md Rasheduzzaman, Shaporan Haque, Shamim Akter Dola, Zakaria Ahmed, Mir Mohammad Ratul, Anjuman Layla Nawshin, Ashiqur Rahman Apu, Priya Kundu, Samia Jannah, Md Al Amin and Meherun Nahar Meghla.

Alongside theoretical and practical classes, course participants will also experience Vishwa Bharati and Kolkata city tours during the four-week programme.
