Bangladesh has asked Malaysia to remain proactive in the ASEAN platform to convince Myanmar for creating a conducive environment for a safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas.
The call was made by Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen when the visiting Malaysian Minister for Human Resources M. Kulasegaran called on him at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (today).Momen thanked Malaysia for their continued support both internationally and regionally with reference to the Rohingya crisis.
He also appreciated Malaysia’s condemnation of atrocities committed against the Rohingya people of Rakhine State of Myanmar and its bold actions in support of persecuted Rohingyas.
The Malaysian Minister assured to remain engaged on the issue and continue Malaysia’s support for a durable solution to the crisis.
Foreign Minister Momen thanked Malaysian Government for employing around 280,000 Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia during 2017-2018 under G2G Plus process.
He requested Malaysian Government to regularise the undocumented Bangladeshis staying in Malaysia as the migrant workers can immensely contribute to both local and home economies.
Terming Malaysia as Bangladesh’s important bilateral trading partner, Foreign Minister Momen suggested that the two way trade can be expanded if Malaysia invests in Bangladesh where a liberal and investor friendly environment is prevailing.He thanked Malaysian Minister for visiting Bangladesh and expressed hope that Malaysian labor market will soon be opened for Bangladeshi migrant workers. He recalled the warm and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries who are bound by common religious, cultural and historical traits.
