Bangladesh will be under pressure in Dhaka Test: Zimbabwe captain

Zimbabwe Test captain Craig Ervine says Bangladesh will be under pressure in the one-off Test starting February 22 against his team at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The last Test Bangladesh played was against Pakistan in Rawalpindi which they lost by an innings and 44 runs.

“You always feel a little bit of pressure playing at home. Obviously, with the recent form, they’ll be under more pressure. But we have to concentrate on our process and our strength and not worry too much about the Bangladesh’s history in Test cricket,” Ervine told the media in the pre-match press conference on Friday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

According to Ervine, despite losing six Tests in a row, Bangladesh are a stronger opponent on home soil. He said Bangladesh are going through a rough patch in Tests recently.

“Obviously they’re a strong opponent on home turf. But this condition is also a little bit familiar to us as we have toured here often in the past. So it’s not a foreign condition for us. It should be a very good contest.”

The spin attack of Bangladesh has always been a big struggle for Zimbabwe in the past. But the head coach of Zimbabwe, Rajput Lalchand, believes Zimbabwe are capable to handle spin bowling now.

“We played two good Test matches against Sri Lanka recently. They also have a very good spin attack, and we played well against them. We know Bangladesh may prepare a spin-friendly wicket, and we’re ready for it as we’ve prepared ourselves well,” Rajput told the media on Friday.
