BGB destroys poppy fields in Bandarban

The members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed some poppy fields in a drive in remote Tendumukh area of Bandarban district on Friday.

Md Sanbir Hasan Mojumder, commanding officer of BGB 38 Battalion (Balipara Zone) confirmed this to the daily sun this afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB, led by Nayeb Subeder Md Mokhlesur Rahman of Tendumukh CIO camp, conducted a drive in the area at around 8:00 am and found the cultivation of the harmful plants on about one acre of land, he said.

The commanding officer also said that the BGB team destroyed the poppy fields by setting ablaze in the presence of local people at around 10:00 am.
