Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa at a heifer distribution function have stressed on engaging comprehensive GO-NGO efforts for development of the backward urban poor by cutting their poverty.
He expressed the opinion in the function organised by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB), an NGO, to launch distribution programme of 100 heifers among the ultra poor urban families at Pirpur Playing Ground in the city on Wednesday as the chief guest.
The mayor distributed 35 heifers free of cost among 35 poor and distressed families of under the Development of Ultra Poor Programme of the Rangpur Area Development Programme (ADP) of WVB in the launching function of the programme.
Under the programme, the NGO will distribute a total of 100 heifers among 100 selected extremely poor and distressed urban families of Wards No 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) area this year.
The main objective of distribution of heifers is to assist the backward urban families to ensure family level employment, economic development and welfare of their children for achieving self-reliance through income generating activities.
Acting Area Programme Cluster (APC) Manager for Rangpur APC of WVB Diamond J. Ghagra presided over the function.
Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. ASM Sadekur Rahman, Ward Councilors Saiful Islam Fulu, Harun-Ar-Rashid and Monwara Sultana Moly, Senior Reporter of BSS Mamun Islam and Technical Specialist (Livelihoods) of WVB Tahmidur Rahman were present as special guests.
The chief guest suggested the heifer recipient extremely poor urban poor families to take proper care of the heifers to improve livelihoods and living standards and ensure the welfare of their children and achieve self-reliance.
