7 arrested in Jashore for cutting woman’s hair

Seven people, including an Awami League leader, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly cutting off the hair of a housewife after torturing her at  Salua Purbapara village in Chowgaccha upazila.

The arrestees are – Abdus Salam, 45, general secretary of ward Awami League imot, Imran Hossain, 23, Ajufa Begum, 40, wife of Mohammad Ali, Rehena, 40, wife of Salam, Beauty Begum, 42, wife of Sirajul, Shapla Begum, 35, wife of Jamal Hossain.

Besides, two accused – Miraj, 27 and Jamal Hossain – are absconding.

According to the victim’s husband, there was a family feud with his wife a month ago. Later, her wife went to her father’s house over the issue. He brought back his wife after the issue was resolved.

On Sunday morning when he was at Salua bazar, his nine-year-old son rushed to him and informed that a group of people had attacked his wife.

When he returned home, the attackers were already gone. During the assault, they also cut off the woman’s hair.

The victim’s husband filed a case against nine people in this connection.

Chowgaccha Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Enamul Haque said that they arrested seven suspects. “We’re trying to arrest the others,” he said.
