Mongla Port gets new chairman

Rear Admiral S M Abul Kalam Azad has formally taken over the charge of Chairman of Mongla Port in Khulna.

Earlier, he served as Director Naval Intelligence in Naval Headquarters, Director Legal and Media Wing in RAB Headquarters, Contingent Commander in BANCON-4, UNIFIL, Director of Naval Training in Naval Headquarters and Director General and Civil Military Relations in Armed Forces Division.

He joined Bangladesh Navy on January of 1985 and was commissioned in executive brunch on 1 July 1987.

During his career, Rear Admiral Azad went through various education and training courses both at home and abroad. Namely, he has done his International Sub Lieutenant Course in Britania Royal Naval College, UK.

He did Initial Staff Course from Royal Naval College, London. He went to Army Language School, Istanbul Turkey for Turkish Language Course. He also did Gunnery Specialization Course from Naval Training Centre, Istanbul, Turkey and became an honor graduate.

Furthermore, he completed International Humanitarian Law course from Hydrabad, India and Executive Decision Making Course from California, USA. He, attended DSCSC, Mirpur for Staff Course and he is an alumni of NDC, Mirpur

During his long and illustrious career in the Navy, Rear Admiral Azad successfully commanded ships of different sizes including Frigates and major logistics, training and administrative bases of Bangladesh Navy.

He has held the sea appointment of Commanding Officer of BNS TANVEER, BNS MADHUMATI, BNS SANGU, BNS UMAR FAROOQ and BNS OSMAN. He also held the shore appointment of Commanding Officer of BNS TITUMIR and BNS ISSA KHAN.
