Accused in 31 fishermen killing case killed in Chattogram 'gunfight'

An alleged forest robber was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Banigram Lotmuni Pahar area in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram early Sunday.

The deceased Morshed Alam, 35, was accused in over two dozen cases including the killing of 31 fishermen in the Bay of Bengal. 

Acting on a tip-off, A RAB patrol team conducted a drive in the area, RAB 7 Assistant Director (Media) Mahmudul Hasan Mamun told media. 

A gang of pirates opened fire as soon as the elite force reached the spot, triggering a gunfight. Morshed was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, Mamun added. 

RAB recovered a large number of firearms and ammunition, including a foreign-made pistol, from the spot.
