Farmers Bank Chairman Chisti shown arrested in graft case

A Dhaka court today showed former chairman of Farmers Bank, now Padma Bank, Mabubul Haque Chisti arrested in a case lodged over allegations of embezzling Taka 114.34 crore through corruption from the bank.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes passed the order, allowing a plea of investigation officer and assistant director of Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) Mohammad Joynal Abedin.

ACC deputy director Samsul Alam filed the case on October 17, 2019, against eight including Chisti for embezzling the money from then Farmers Bank.

The other accused are- Chisti’s brother Mazedul Haque alias Shamim Chisti, former managing director of the bank AKMM Shamim, Shababa Apparels owner Md Abdul Wadud alias Qamrul, ADM Dyeing and Washing proprietor Rashed Ali, Tanuz Corporation owner Md Meftah Ferdous, Mohammad Ali Transport owner Md Golam Sarowar and Kanam Products owner Ismail Hawlader.
