Prothom Alo editor and publisher Matiur Rahman, its associate editor Anisul Haque, and 4 others on Sunday filed a petition with the High Court (HC) seeking anticipatory bail in a case filed over the death of Naimul Abrar Rahat, a student of Dhaka Residential Model College.
Earlier on Thursday, the court of Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam issued arrest warrants against Prothom Alo editor and 9 others people in the same case.The other accused are Kabir Bakul, head of event and activation of Kishor Alo, Shuvashish Pramanik Shuvo and Shah Paran Tushar, assistants at event and activation of Kishor Alo, Mahitul Alam Pavel, senior assistant editor of Kishor Alo, and four stage decorators -- Jasim Uddin Topu, Mosharraf Hossain, Md Sujan and Kamrul Hawlader.
The Dhaka court passed the order of arrest warrants for the 10 persons after hearing a probe report submitted by investigation officer (IO) Abdul Alim, also officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.
Ninth grader Nayeemul Abrar died after being electrocuted behind the stage at an event organised by Kishor Alo, a publication of Prothom Alo, at Dhaka Residential Model College on November 1 last year.
Victim's father Mujibur Rahman filed the case with Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court on November 6.
In the case, Mujibur Rahman alleged that the organisers had negligence in ensuring safety regarding electronic wares at the venue, which cost the life of his son.
He also alleged that Abrar was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital at Mohakhali although Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital was close to the programme venue. He accused Kishore Alo and school authorities of concealing the information of Abrar’s death and continuing the programme despite the tragic incident.
