To mark the 12th death anniversary of noted playwright and theatre artiste Selim Al Deen, theatre troupe Swapnadal has organised a festival titled ‘Natyacharya Selim Al Deen Smaran Utsab 2020’.
The three-day festival begun at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital on Tuesday.The event features a memorial procession, seminars on theatre and stage shows of Swapnadal’s productions.
Swapnadal staged the play ‘Hargaj’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA on the first day of the festival.
Based on a true story, ‘Hargaj’ an outstanding work by Selim Al Deen, has been directed by Zahid Repon, a disciple of the playwright.
On the other hand, Swapnadal’s much-acclaimed production ‘Tringsha Sadabdee’ has been staged on the second day of the festival. This was the 110th stage show of the popular theatre troupe.
The festival will conclude tomorrow, with the seminar tiled ‘Oitijjhyobahi Bangla Natyariti, Doitadoitibadi Shilpotottyo and ‘Selim Al Deen er Nattyodorshon’.
Preside over by thespian Ataur Rahman, Swapnadal’s Chief Secretary of Zahid Repon will deliver the welcome speech at the concluding ceremony.Jahangirnagar University’s Drama and Dramatics Department Professor Dr Lutfor Rahman, theatre personalities Dr Shoma Mumtaz, Mannan Hira, Masum Reza, and Kamal Bayezid attend the programme, among, others.
