Country’s popular and leading Bangla daily Kaler Kantho has stepped into eleventh years of its journey with a fresh pledge to uphold the sprit of liberation war towards developing non-communal Bangladesh.
On the occasion of founding anniversary, the newspaper organized a day-long get-together and reception held at the International Convention City-Bashundhara (ICCB) where Ministers, lawmakers, political leaders from different parties, foreign diplomats, leaders from journalist unions, newspaper and electronic media editors, readers, patrons and well wishers converged the venue.One of the main attractions of the celebration was honouring of twenty-five eminent personalities for their outstanding contribution in different fields of the country. Each recipient received cheque of Tk. one lakh and a crest.
Speaker of Jatiya Sangshad Shirin Sharmin Choudhury attended the function as chief guest while Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was guest of honour on the occasion.
Among others, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Disaster and Relief Minister Enamur Rahman, diplomats from India, China, were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Kaler Kantho has moved forward in pace of truth as the newspaper gained unique readership through practicing objective journalism.
“As we know that the nation is celebrating the historical homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The newspaper is also celebrating founding anniversary marking the tenth year of upholding spirit of liberation war in news and contents. Besides, the newspaper has also played courageous role to project positive stories based on development strategy of the government led-by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” she added.
The Speaker also expressed hope that the newspaper will continue its success tale through practicing objective journalism for developing non-communal Bangladesh.Appreciating the awardees, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said the enlighten personalities are not only light houses for Bangladesh but also acclaimed internationally.
He reiterated the stance of media outlets under the East West Media Group to continue their high professionalism upholding the spirit of liberation war. He said the newsmen working in the houses also project the positive and development of stories of the country by maintaining their sincerity.
Recalling the Father of the Nation, the Bashundhara Group Chairman said: “We would not have achieved today’s progress had Bangabandhu not liberated the country. The ideals of the Father of the Nation acted behind all development of the country.”
He said Bangladesh achieved tremendous development in all sectors under the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She (Hasina) is working relentlessly to turn the country into Sonar Bangla as envisaged by Bangabandhu.
Bashundhara Group Vice Chairmen Shafiat Sobhan and Safwan Sobhan were also present on the occasion. Kaler Kantho Acting Editor Mostofa Kamal made welcome address while Editor Imdadul Haq Milan moderated the session.
Imdadul Haq Milan in his speech said the newspaper will continue to maintain objective journalism highlighting social justice, equality, peace and stability.
Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury along with senior members of the paper greeted Kaler Kantho on its 10th anniversary with a flower bouquet.
