Man held with 8.50 kg gold at Dhaka airport

A preventive team of Dhaka Customs House detained a man along with 8.50 kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday night.

Sources at the airport revealed that a passenger named Himel Khan landed at the airport by a flight of Emirates Airlines IK-684 came from Dubai at 11:45 pm.

Sajjad Hossain, assistant commissioner of Customs,  said on secrete information, a preventive team of Dhaka Customs  took position at the key points of the airport at a time when Himel was about to leave the green channel, customs officials challenged him for his suspicious movement and recovered huge amount of gold from his bag after searching it.

The value of the seized gold was estimated at around Tk 4.23 crore.

Later, Himel Hossain was handed over to airport police, Sajjad Hossain said.
