Former Expatriates’ Welfare Minister’s APS sentenced to 7 years in jail

A Dhaka court had sentenced former leader of BCL Faridpur district unit and also the ex-APS of former Expatriates’ Welfare & Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to seven years jail.

The convicted accused is Satyajit Mukherjee, son of Manash Mukherjee of Golchamat area of Faridpur town, who was removed from the post of APS due to corruption.

Joynal Abedin, the judge of the No. 10 Special Judge's Court of Dhaka, announced the verdict on November 14 in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Satyajit Mukherjee. The court also fined him Tk 1 crore 39 lakh 44 thousand and 176.

The court has sentenced the former BCL leader to jail for amassing Tk 1 crore and 39 lakh illegally.

Rezaul Karim Reza, a prosecutor of the ACC confirmed the matter to media on Tuesday saying the verdict was delivered in absence of the accused Satyajit.

On June 29 in 2016, KM Misbah Uddin, Deputy Director of ACC, filed the case with Ramna police station.

The court also issued arrest warrant against Satyajit Mukherjee for absconding at the time of verdict. At the same time the convict was asked to deposit the fine in the government treasury within sixty days.
