Mahila Parishad condemns schoolgirl suicide over eve-teasing

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), a women’s rights organisation, on Tuesday condemned the suicide of a schoolgirl at Kolkutipara village in Kishorganj Upazila in Nilphamari due to eve-teasing.

In a statement, signed by BMP acting President Dr Fojia Moslem and general secretary Maleka Banu, the organisation condemned the incident and urged government to arrest the culprits.

They also sought proper investigation and ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits over the incident.

Earlier on Monday, Karima Akhter Kanij, 14, an eighth-grade student of Kishorganj Bohumukhi High School committed suicide.

Victim’s family said Kawsar Ali, 18, a first-year student of Putimari BM College of the area had been harassing the girl for months and Karima Akhter Kanij committed suicide due to his eve-teasing.
