After stellar performances in the just-concluded Indore Test against Bangladesh that India won by an innings and 130 runs, pacer Mohammed Shami and opener Mayank Agarwal have risen to career-best positions in the ICC Test Rankings. Shami's 7 for 58 for the match puts him now at No.7 among the bowlers with 790 rating points, the third-best for an India pacer after Kapil Dev (877) and Jasprit Bumrah (832), while Agarwal's 243 has him at 11th among batsmen.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma moved into the top 20, and Ravichandran Ashwin remained in the top 10 for bowlers, moving to the fourth position among all-rounders.For Bangladesh, only Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das made any gains among batsmen, while Abu Jayed's career-best four-wicket haul saw him move upwards.
With the comprehensive win and the 1-0 lead, India strengthened their position at the top of the Championship table with 300 points, yet to concede a Test after six successive wins so far.
Next-best are Sri Lanka and New Zealand with 60 points each, followed by Australia and England who are on 56 apiece. West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh are yet to open their accounts. Pakistan will play their first game of the WTC against Australia later this week.
