New onion hits Madaripur market

Newly-harvested onion has started to hit the market here with each kg selling at Tk 175 at retail market.

Visiting the Puran Bazar in the district town on Saturday evening, it was found that traders were selling local variety of onion at a relatively cheaper price.

Raw onion was selling at Tk 175 per kg while spring onion (onion with leaves) for Tk 100 a kg.

A trader at the market said he bought spring onion at Tk 80 per kg from a farmer of nearby Panchkhola village and sold it for Tk 100.

A wholesaler said traders from Shibchar upazila brought around 4 maunds of new onion to the market which was sold at Tk 175 per kg.

Meanwhile, other onion was still selling at Tk 220-Tk 240 per kg at retail market.
