New Jagannath University campus to attract foreigners: Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said Jagannath University (JnU) will be built in a green environment in harmony with the present world.

He said not just from the Asia, people from all over the world will come to visit the university campus.

Nasrul Hamid came up with the information on Saturday while addressing as the chief guest of a programme of cheque distribution among the people affected by the land acquisition of a new campus project of Jagannath University at Tegharia Union of Keraniganj Upazila of Dhaka.

The state minister said that the people of Keraniganj will be benefited highly for the university. The design of the university will be so sophisticated and modern that the foreigners will come to see the aesthetic beauty of the JnU campus.

The estimated cost of the project has been fixed at Tk 10,000 crore. Already, Tk 2,000 crore has been provided for land acquisition, construction of boundary walls, lakes and some other small tasks, he added. 

Nasrul Hamid said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, has instructed the authorities concerned to pay three times the current value of lands acquired by the government for the university campus so that people (land owners) do not express their dissatisfaction. The premier also stressed the need for proper monitoring in paying land prices to the owners. All the works of the university will be completed following the instructions of the prime minister. The campus of the university will get lakes, grounds and green environment. Students will avail tram facilities in a bid to move from one hall to another hall of the university.”
