Dhaka’s rail link with north, south partly resumed after 6 hours

Rail link of Dhaka with the northern and southwestern districts of the country partly resumed on Thursday night after six hours of suspension after the Rangpur Express train’s engine and power car caught fire when it went off the tracks near the Ullapara Railway Station this afternoon.

Ullapara Railway Station sources said the train communications were restored around 8:30 pm.

Earlier, at least eight passengers were injured as three compartments of Rangpur Express caught fire after the derailment of the intercity train.

Six units of Fire Service and Civil Defence with the help of the locals managed to douse the fire around 5:00 pm, three hours after the incident.
