Cluster village for Hijra people opened in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon district administration has established a cluster village for the local Hijra (Hermaphrodite) population for their better quality of living.

Dr KM Kamruzzaman Selim, Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon district on Wednesday inaugurated the village named “Uttaran” at Kaharpara village in Nargun union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

Twenty Hijra families of the locality have been rehabilitated in this cluster village built on 0.92 acres of land costing Tk 3 lakh 35 thousand. Forty more Hijra families will be resettled in this village later.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, DC Kamruzzaman Selim at the end of the programme handed over various items including rice, pulses, oil, and noodles among the hijra families.

Besides, for their daily livelihood, Thakurgaon Sadar upazila administration takes different programmes like setting up beauty parlours, leasing ponds and cattle rearing.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al-Mamun presided over the inauguration programme.

Among others, Upazila Land Officer Bonhishikha Asha, Press Club President Mansur Ali, Project Officer Samuel Mardi, Sadar Police Station OC (Operation) Golam Mortuza, Nargun UP Chairman Paiygam Ali, Hijra leader Nadira addressed the programme.
