Nepal eliminate Bangladesh beating 3-0 sets

Hosts Bangladesh were eliminated from the first Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship after conceding 2nd defeat losing to Nepal by 0-3 sets in their 3rd match.

Bangladesh could hardly produce any resistance against the visitors as the Himalayan nation beat them by 25-7, 25-6 and 25-6 points at Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

With the 3rd successive win, Nepal reached the final of the five-nation meet. Sunita Khadka of Nepal was adjudged the best player of the match.

The final and the 3rd place-deciding match will be held on Thursday (Nov 14) at the same venue.

In the day’s other match, Kyrgyzstan outplayed all-losers Afghanistan also by straight 3-0 sets (25-6, 25-7, 25-15 points) at the same venue.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a flying start beating Afghanistan by straight 3-0 sets (25-9, 25-9, 25-3 points) in the opening match before conceding a straight 0-3 sets (16-25, 25-27, 22-25) defeat against the Maldives in their 2nd match on Sunday.

Bangladesh will play Kyrgyzstan in their 4th and last match on Wednesday at 3:00 pm while two title-contenders the Maldives and Nepal will also meet each other on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the same venue.

After the match, Bangladesh Coach Golam Rasul Mehedi said, “I am not disappointed with the results. Our girls are new, they got their first international exposure through this tournament. They were found nervous and they failed to give their best. I think they’ll display better performances in the ensuing South Asian Games.”
