Three fishermen were dead and nine others went missing in the Bay of Bengal after a commercial ship hit a fishing trawler in the deep sea near St Martin's Island in Cox's Bazar, media reports.

Confirming the incident of trawler capsizes and fishermen’s death, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Wednesday issued a press release saying 12 men were rescued from the sea by NAVY ship “Somudra Joy” and “Aporajeyo” and had been continuing search operation to rescue nine missing men.

According to the ISPR press release, a fishing trawler named 'FB Minshondhani' was drowned in the sea on Tuesday (Nov 5) midnight. No sooner after being informed, BNS Somudra Joy rushed to the spot and rescued 12 fishermen with the help of locals.

Later, BNS Aporajeyo joined the rescue operation. During the long operation, they recovered three dead bodies from the sea.

The release also mentioned that two NAVY ships have been continuing close searching operations for missing nine fishermen.
