ACC sues Satkhira Medical College ex-director, 4 others over graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 5 persons including former director of Satkhira Medical College Hospital (SMCH) Dr Sheikh Shahjahan Ali for embezzling government money worth Tk 6.6 crore.
The four others are M/S Mercantile Trade International owners Md Abdus Sattar and MD Ahsan Habib, Bengal Scientific & Surgical Cooperation owner Md Jaher Udddin Sarkar as well as Universal Trade Cooperation owner Md Asadur Rahman.
ACC public relations officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed this to the daily sun on Thursday.
Pranab said, the anti-graft body’s deputy assistant director Md Ferdous Rahman filed the case with the commission’s integrated district in Khulna, accusing the five person under section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code.
According to the case statement, the accused in collusion with each other made three fake bills showing purchase of medical equipment including ‘Picture Archiving and Communication System’ software for the hospital.
The accused withdrew over Tk 6.6 crore by making the fake bills and abusing powers and thus embezzled the public money.
