Non-MPO teachers call off hunger strike

The teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions called off their hunger strike on Tuesday night following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's assurance that the demand would be fulfilled.

Earlier in the morning, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni  in a press conference said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the institutions brought under MPO on Wednesday at Ganabhaban in the capital.

She told reporters that all eligible educational institution will be brought under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) facility as per their performance. The eligible institutions will get MPO benefits.

The Education Minister urges non-MPO teachers who have been staging hunger strikes, to go back to their classes to get MPO facility.

Earlier on Monday, the teachers and employees started a hunger strike for an indefinite period in front of the national press club demanding a specific time to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to place their demands.
