‘Casino Sayeed’ removed from ward councillor post

AKM Mominul Huq Sayeed alias casino Sayeed, councillor of ward-9 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has been removed from his post for his alleged involvement in illegal casino business.

The Local Government Department under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives on Thursday issued a notice, signed by deputy secretary of the department ANM Faizul Haque, in this regard.

According to the notice, Sayeed's councillor post was annulled as he remained absent in three consecutive board meetings without showing valid reason and travelled abroad without permission.

Such an act is a violation of the subsection (1, 2) of section 13 of the Local Government Act 2009, the notice said.

Sayeed, who was allegedly running illegal casino at Wanderer’s Club in the capital’s Fakirapool, has recently fled to abroad to avert arrest.

Sayeed, also a joint secretary of Dhaka city south Jubo League committee, fled to Singapore following a raid by a team of the elite force RAB at the Wanderer’s Club last month.

He is known as ‘Casino Sayeed’ in Fakirapool and Arambagh area and has illegal casino business in Thailand and Singapore too.

Wanderer’s Club, just a short distance from the Motijheel police station, is now under lock and key.

Sayeed came to the limelight amid the recent crackdown of the law enforcing agencies against those who illegally run casinos across the country.

Sayeed scaled to his current position through alleged extortion in Motijheel and surrounding areas. After being elected as the councillor he started a casino in Motijheel’s Wanderer’s Club in 2015.
