AL activist killed in Goalanda infighting

An Awami League (AL) activist was killed in clashes between two groups of party men during the triennial conference in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Rezaul Karim alias Abu Daktar, son of Mobarak Molla of Munshipara village of No. 2 Ward in Devgram union in Goalanda.

According to local sources, a clash ensued between two groups of local Awami League leaders and activists centering triennial conference of No. 2 Ward AL unit under Devgram union of Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district on the evening of Monday.

The triennial conference of No. 2 Ward AL unit was postponed because of the clash.

Locals said tension had been spread since Monday afternoon centering the conference and at the last stage of the conference an altercation held between the supporters of Doulatdia Union chairman Hafizur Rahman and former chairman of the union Ator Ali over the election of President and General Secretary of No. 2 ward Awami League unit.

At one stage supporters of two groups locked into a clash that left Rezaul Karim, a supporter of Chairman Hafizur Rahman, critically injured.

He was rushed to the Faridpur Medical College and Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Md. Salauddin, Additional Superintendent of Police of Faridpur confirmed the matter.
