Claiming the government's success in tackling dengue menace, Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday said he has learnt a good lesson from this year’s outbreak of the mosquito-borne hazard.
“We have successfully combated the dengue outbreak. The number of dengue patients is decreasing at hospitals across the country,” he said. The minister came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion at a hotel in the capital.
Zahid Maleque said, “This (this year’s dengue outbreak) is a lesson for us. We have directed the related bodies to take a year-long mosquito killing programme to fight the menace so that the mosquito borne disease may not spread in massive form next year.”
Till now a total of 83,481 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country, according to data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The dengue claimed some 67 lives since January 1 this year, according to the official data. However, the unofficial death toll is much higher than this.
