Three people including two Rohingyas with links to crime have been killed in a so-called shootout with law enforcers at Baharchhara in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Jamil, 20, son of Fazal Ahmed; and Asmat Ullah, 21, son of Nabi Hossain of  Ukhiya’s Balukhali camp; and Mohammad Rafique, 24, son of Mohammad Ali of Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said the criminals, wanted in several cases, were arrested on Wednesday.

Police later conducted a drive in the area with the criminals to recover firearms.

But as soon as police reached Baharchhara, criminals opened fire, triggering a skirmish. The three criminals sustained gunshot wounds while trying to flee the scene.

Later, they were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced them dead.

Three light guns, six bullets and eight bullet shells were recovered from the spot.
