Thousands demand permanent solution to Bhabadah water-logging

People of five upazilas in Khulna region formed sit-in demonstration at Avaynagar of Jashore demanding permanent solution of Bhabadah waterlogging on Monday.

Staging sit-in began at 10:00 am and ended at 12:00 pm, they also stressed the need for implementation of six-point demand, including Tidal River Management (TRM).

Thousands of people from all walks of life joined the programme with placards in their hands.

The TRM is an indigenous water management system that allows tidal water to flow into the wetlands and river basin, and rolling back of the water when the tide subsides.

Thousands of people suffer for the perennial waterlogging in Bhabadah covering Manirampur, Abhaynagar, Keshabpur upazilas of Jashore and Dumuria and Fultala of Khulna.

The residents of the five upazilas of southwest region of the country have been a movement for the last 18 years demanding steps for resolving the waterlogging crisis.
