The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have paid Tk 1 crore 60 lakh to Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) JU unit from an ongoing development project of the university, the student organisation General Secretary Golam Rabbani claimed.
He made the claim in a letter that he and BCL president Shovon jointly wrote to Awami League president Sheikh Hasina apologising for their mistakes and controversial activities on Thursday.“No money transaction happened,” the JU Public Relation Office and BCL JU unit said in separate releases on Friday.
They also termed BCL secretary Rabbani’s claim of money fraudulence as blatant lies.
A press released, signed by BCL JU unit’s deputy office secretary M Mainul Hossain, said, “BCL central president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani held a meeting with the university vice chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam on August 8. The university unit (BCL JU unit) is not aware of what they have discussed during the meeting.”
“Therefore, Golam Rabbani’s claim that the university authorities paid Tk 1 crore 60 lakh is baseless,” the release claimed.
Another press release, issued from public relation office of the university yesterday, said, “BCL central president and general secretary have given fabricated information about the Tk 1,445-crore campus development project of the university.”
“No money was paid to the leaders of the university BCL unit.
