No Bangladeshi university including Dhaka University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology secured its position in the top 1,000 in a world university ranking made by the Times Higher Education (THE) this year.
The Times Higher Education, a London-based organisation, published a list of a total of 1,396 top-ranking universities from 92 countries in the world, named as ‘The World University Rankings-2020’ on Wednesday.Only the Dhaka University, once known as the Oxford of the East, from Bangladesh made it to the list, though below the top 1000 in the ranking.
Earlier, in May this year, the Times Higher Education also published a list of a total of 417 top-ranking universities in the Asia but Dhaka University failed to secure any position in the list.
The ranking was prepared based on five criteria-- teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry outcome.
The University of Oxford topped the 2020 edition of the rankings for the fourth consecutive year.
