Chase and counter chase during eviction drive at Mohammadpur

A chase and counter-chase has taken place between local Awami League leaders and madrasa students during an eviction drive at Mohammadpur in the capital.

The incident took place while staff of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) lead by two executive magistrates attempted to demolish a tin-shed building at Tajmahal Road on Sunday.

The room was being used as kitchen of Jami’ah Baitul Aman Minar Masjid and Islamic Centre. The madrasa students hurled brick chips at the DNCC staff and local AL leaders while they attempted to demolish the structure.

In retaliation, the Al leaders also made a counter chase with sticks to the students. Following the chase and counter chase, the eviction drive took a violent turn.

Later, DNCC officials, Police and locals persuaded the madrasa students to give up their illegal demand to help modernize the area.
