Damal Chhele Nazrul to be staged at BSA today

Damal Chhele Nazrul, an autobiographical play on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be staged at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today at 07:00pm.

Cultural organisation Genesis is bringing the drama on stage to mark the 43rd death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Written by Mahmudullah, the play features early days of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The sudden death of Nazrul’s father his family faced an economic crisis and Nazrul soon becomes a muazzin at a local mosque. Unable to bear the educational expenses, Nazrul is forced to leave the school and joins a leto gaan-er dol. After some time he leaves the group and starts working at a bakery as an apprentice.

Though he left school, a perpetual hunger for knowledge was always in his heart. Every day he would make some time for reading. One day he meets a police officer, Kazi Rafizullah, who is impressed by the Nazrul’s talent. The officer takes Nazrul with him and registers him in a school. Thus, the story will continue…

Directed by Noor Hossain Rana, the play stars Emon Khan, Nithor Mahbub, Noor Hossain Rana, Nusrat Lia, Farzana Rony, Iqbal, Afroza Shakib, Mokter, Salma, Milon, Somudro, Ahona, Ali, Panna, Swapan, Sonia, Razzaq, Mohidul, Sarzana, Yeashfa and others.
