Man held for ‘raping’ daughter-in-law

A man has been held over the allegation of raping his daughter-in-law in Aditmari upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Sunday night.

The detainee was identified as Yunus Ali, 45, son of late Sahidar Rahman of Mahisnkhocha union of the upazila.

Locals and witnesses said Yunus Ali was caught red-handed on Sunday night from his own house at Barogharia Shekherdighi village and later handed over to police.

Quoting locals, police told reporters that having first wife Yunus Ali, a carpenter made second marriage to a woman, who had a young son.

About six months earlier, Yunus Ali’s stepson got married and after some days he went to Dhaka for searching job leaving her wife with his mother and stepfather.

On Sunday night, while the daughter-in-law was sleeping, Yunus Ali entered into her room and raped her. Hearing the screaming of the victim, locals rushed to the house and caught the alleged father-in-law red-handedly and later they handed over the accused to the police.

The alleged rape victim filed a case with Aditmari police station on Monday noon. Police showed Yunus Ali arrest in that case and produced him before the court.

Meanwhile, victim daughter-in-law was sent to Lalmonirhat sadar hospital for medical checkup.

Confirming the matter, Saiful Islam, Officer in Charge (OC) of Aditmari police station, said.

Police took the case in cognisance and Yunus Ali has been shown arrest in connection with the charges, Saiful Islam added.
