Dengue cases hit record of 50,000 this year

Bangladesh has witnessed a record of dengue cases with around 50,000 patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the country this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 49,999 patients were admitted to hospitals with dengue fever from January 1 to till the date, the fresh data of the DGHS, published on Friday, said.

Of the infected with dengue fever, a total of 42,243 have recovered from the disease and returned home after taking treatment in various hospitals, indicating that the rate of recovery is 84 per cent.

Of them, 40 people died of dengue fever so far across the country. However, the death toll is much higher as per unofficial estimates.

This year, dengue has spread its claw to all 64 districts of the country, taking a countrywide alarming turn.

 

1,719 new dengue cases

Some 1,719 new patients infected with the mosquito-borne disease were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Friday.

Of them, a total of 759 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in the capital and 960 were outside Dhaka.

Earlier, Some 1,929 people with dengue infection were admitted to different hospitals across the country in past 24 hours till August 15, 1880 on August 14, 1200 on August 13, 2093 on August 12, 2334 on August 11, 2176 on August 10 and 2002 on August 9.
