Cumilla BNP leader killed in road crash

A leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of Cumilla unit, who was critically injured in a road accident at Bhaberchr area on Dhaka-Chittagong highway of Munshiganj on Tuesday morning, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in city later in the day.

The deceased was identified as Advocate Farid Uddin Ahmed, 65, president of Cummila’s Debidwar upazila BNP unit. His granddaughter Masruka,2, also killed in the accident.

Farid Uddin’s wife and son, who were also sustained critical injuries in the accident, are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Confirming the news, general secretary of Debidwar upazila BNP GIas Uddin said Farid along with four other members his family were returning to Dhaka after observing Eid in Cumilla on a Microbus on Tuesday morning. But, a truck rammed their microbus at Bhoberchar area, leaving Masruka dead on the spot and four others injured. Later, Farid was admitted to a private hospital in the capital but he breathed his last at 8:00pm on Tuesday.
