Govt to purchase Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor through DPM

The government today approved a proposal to purchase a Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor for the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) through Direct Purchase Method (DPM) for the sake of national security.

The approval came from the 12th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Cabinet Division with Finance Minister AHM
Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Kamal said such Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor is very important for national security and the purchase would cost around Taka 200 crore.

He said as there is a possibility of breaching the secrecy, the government is going for the DPM method while procuring this vehicle through relaxing the financial ceiling of the Section 76 (2) of the Public Procurement Rules 2008.

Answering to a question, the Finance Minister said this Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor would not go against private secrecy and it would be a very important tool to deal with the rumors.

“We should be very careful all measures should have to carry on to address rumors and such things,” he added.

The meeting today approved another proposal empowering the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) under the Ministry of Commerce to purchase essential items from the international market to meet the immediate demand.
