The High Court on Wednesday issued rules on police over the requisition of private cars, CNG-run auto-rickshaw and taxis.

The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Khijir Ahmed Chowdhury came up with the verdict after hearing writ petition moved by Advocate Manjill Murshid on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

From now on, police cannot requisition private vehicles, according to the HC directives.

All requisition of vehicles must be for the public interest and if it is not for public interest, legal action must be taken against the responsible police officer, it said.

The HC issued nine directives on police over the requisitioning of vehicles.
