Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday said Bangladesh doesn’t want alms from anybody to implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and she wants scope of work, business and trade.
He also strongly criticised the developed world for not fulfilling their commitments of providing financial support to poor nations in implementing SDGs.“The wealthy nations never fulfill their commitment. But we’ can’t sit idle. We’ve taken our own initiatives to do whatever needed to implement SDGs,” the minister said.
He made the remarks while speaking at a press briefing in the capital after he attended Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) Conference held at the UN headquarters in New York.
“We don’t want alms from anybody to implement SDGs. We only want scope of work, business and trade,” Mannan said, adding: “We’ve already created a trust fund to fight negative impacts of climate change.”
He also said implementation of SDGs has become easier as it has been incorporated in the national budget. Besides, rising GDP growth and revenue earnings will also help, he added.
