Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad has suspended its Organising Secretary Priya Saha for her "anti-disciplinary acts".
The decision came after an emergency meeting of the organisation’s standing committee on Monday.“We have suspended Priya Saha from all organisational activities for her anti-disciplinary activities,” said Rana Dasgupta, the head of the council of minorities.
The decision will take effect immediately, he added.
Priya Saha attended a meeting on religious freedom at the White House in Washington DC on Jul 17.
During an interaction with US President Donald Trump, she commented that 37 million Hindus, Buddhists and Christians have disappeared in Bangladesh.
Later, a video of her interaction with Trump caused widespread criticism on social media. The government condemned her statement for damaging the image of the country with the 'fictitious and unfounded' allegations of repression.
