Police on Sunday arrested 14 persons in connection with beating a youth to death and another woman to serious injury suspecting them to be child-lifters in Narayanganj.
Harun-Ur-Rashid, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Narayanganj, disclosed the information at a press briefing in front of the Chashara Shaheed Minar in the district.Earlier, Siraj Mia was beaten to death by a mob at Siddhirganj upazila and another woman beaten on same suspicion in the district on Yesterday morning (July 20).
Harun-Ur-Rashid said, “Some local people beat Siraj Mia to death on suspicion of being child-lifter at Siddhirganj. The victim failed to protest the mob as he was deaf. We are investigating into the matter.”
He also informed that victim Siraj Mia was not a child-lifter.
The SP also said, “A vested quarter is trying to exploit the opportunity deteriorating the law and order situation in the country through the spread of child-lifter rumour. We have already identified many of them. They will be detained and brought to justice.”
Three people, including a woman, were killed in separate mob beatings across the country yesterday.
Later, on the same day, police asked all citizens of the country not to spread rumours and refrain from mob beating incidents.
