Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said the Awami League (AL) has ‘imported’ dengue menace in the country.
“Awami League introduced deadly dengue fever in the country in the year of 1997. Aedes mosquitoes have boomed to a great extend in the country since then,” he claimed. He made the claims at a press conference at BNP’s central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan area this afternoon.
The BNP leader alleged that the government has no effective measure to prevent the dengue menace.
Rizvi said, “The health ministry and Directorate General of Health Services have not conducted enough drives, which are needed to fight the dengue menace.”
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, five people died of dengue in the capital so far. More than five thousand people were admitted to different hospitals of the capital with dengue.
