Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said it is not clear what ACC chairman wanted to imply by saying ‘committing mistake on a good faith is not crime or corruption.
“They government considers any type of corruption as corruption. The ACC chief has to clarify what he has denoted through his comments,” he said.In reply to reporters’ queries about Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Ikbal Mahmud’s comments on corruption parameters for the government employees in Deputy Commissioners’ Conference yesterday, Quader made the remarks at a press conference at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s political office in the city’s Dhanmonddi area.
Obaidul Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, demanded an explanation of ACC chief’s remarks on corruption during the press conference. “He has to explain it.”
He also reiterated the zero tolerance policy of the government against corruption.
ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud yesterday said if government employees commit major mistakes "on good faith", they (those mistakes) won’t be considered as crimes or corruption.
He made the remark during attending the 3rd working session of the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference on 5th day at the Secretariat in the city.
Iqbal Mahmud has drawn intense criticism for his comment on social media platforms and many social media users have been trolling him for this since then.
