266 Bangladeshi nationals detained by Malaysian immigration department

Malaysian Immigration Department has detained at least 525 illegal migrants including 266 Bangladeshi nationals, according to a report published on Monday by a Bangladesh daily.

They were arrested while the immigration department of the country carried out several operations at Kotaraya, Jalan Silang and Pudu Sentral bus stations areas in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia on Sunday afternoon.

Malaysia is home to nearly 800,000 Bangladeshi nationals. Of them, approximate 1 to 2 lakh are estimated to be undocumented.

Bangladesh has requested Malaysian authorities to regularise the undocumented workers for several times, but Malaysian authorities have repeatedly denied.
