The High Court has ordered the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to eradicate Aedes mosquito for preventing mosquito-borne diseases including dengue and chikungunya fever in Dhaka within 24 hours.
The HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order while issuing a suo moto rule on Sunday.
The DSCC and DNCC were asked to submit the report before the HC through the Attorney General’s Office by July 22.
The HC bench issued the rule asking the city authorities why their sluggishness in preventing mosquito-borne diseases should not be declared illegal.
The DSCC and DNCC mayors, two chief executives officers of the city corporations, health secretary, Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) secretary and director general of Directorate of Health Services were asked to answer the rule within a week.
